Student Dome Projection Microscope
The SUSWOX SKC-AV 200 is a compact student dome projection microscope designed for schools, colleges, teaching laboratories and group microscopy demonstrations. It allows the enlarged image of a microscopic specimen to be viewed directly on a large 8-inch dome projection screen, making it particularly useful when a specimen needs to be demonstrated to several students simultaneously.
The microscope combines 5X, 10X and 45X achromatic objectives with a 10X eyepiece to provide a 50X–450X magnification range. A precision rack-and-pinion focusing mechanism provides smooth and controlled focusing, while the fixed 120 × 120 mm stage incorporates a coaxial graduated mechanical stage for accurate X-Y specimen positioning.
The integrated illumination system can be configured with either a 3W LED or 6V/20W halogen lamp, with adjustable brightness for convenient control of specimen illumination.
The dome-type projection arrangement is particularly suited to educational environments because the projected specimen can be observed without requiring every student to look through an individual eyepiece. Projection System
The 8-inch dome screen provides a large, convenient viewing surface for classroom demonstrations. The dome configuration allows the projected image to be observed comfortably by multiple students around the microscope.
Comparable dome projection designs use a rotatable projection screen mounted above the microscope optical system specifically to facilitate group viewing.
Illumination System
The SKC-AV 200 is designed with a dual illumination option:
• 3W LED — energy efficient, long-life and low-heat illumination.
• 6V/20W Halogen — conventional high-intensity illumination.
• Adjustable brightness — allows the operator to optimize illumination according to the specimen and objective being used.
This LED/halogen configuration is also consistent with established student projection microscope designs, where LED systems are used for lower heat and power consumption while halogen provides high-intensity illumination.

Q1 What is the maximum magnification of the CXL Bi?
1000×. The WF10X eyepieces multiply with the 100X oil immersion objective, giving 40×, 100×, 400× and 1000× across the four positions on the nosepiece. Beyond 1000× you gain no additional detail with this optical system — you are only enlarging an image the numerical aperture has already limited.
Q2 Do I need immersion oil, and can I skip it?
You need it for the 100X objective. Without oil filling the gap between the coverslip and the front lens, light bends away at the glass–air boundary and the effective N.A. drops well below 1.25 — the image goes dim and soft. A vial is included in the box. Wipe the objective with lens tissue after each session.
Q3 What is the difference between semi-plan and plan achromatic objectives?
Semi-plan objectives give a flat, sharp image across roughly 80% of the field, with slight softening at the extreme edge. Plan objectives correct the full field but cost significantly more. For routine screening and teaching, semi-plan is the practical choice; for photomicrography where edge-to-edge sharpness is published, ask us about the plan upgrade.
Q4 LED or halogen — which should I specify?
LED for almost every lab. It runs at 50,000 hours against roughly 1,000 for halogen, stays cool so it does not dry your specimen, and holds colour temperature as you dim it. Halogen remains available if your protocol was validated on it or you need its warmer spectrum for particular stains.
Q5 Can a camera be attached to this microscope?
Yes. The sliding binocular head accepts our XCAM Mini and X Cam C-mount cameras through an adapter. If documentation is a daily requirement rather than an occasional one, consider a trinocular model instead so you keep both eyepieces and the camera port live at the same time.
